Empirical Labs announces the Distressor EL-8 XXX
Empirical Labs is celebrating its 30th anniversary with the Distressor EL-8 XXX, a limited edition version of the popular Distressor.
It features all the improved functions of the EL8X (Stereo Image Link, Brit Mode) and is now additionally equipped with the famous Triad HS-56 transformer in the input stage, which is known for giving sub-content more clarity and “size.” In addition to saturation and tone color, this transformer also significantly reduces the input impedance to 600 ohms. These changes, along with some new discrete components, allow the XXX model to saturate and color earlier than the classic EL8—it makes the lows of a mix shine like no other device!

Zoom is pleased to announce the LiveTrak L6max 12-channel digital mixer / 14-track 32-bit float multitrack recorder. The LiveTrak L6max takes the concept of the popular LiveTrak L6 to the next level. Not only does it feature two additional XLR/jack combo inputs, but it also integrates groundbreaking AI Noise Reduction and enables unlimited overdubbing, including a separate “bounce track”—new features that are unique in its class.
The L6max can be installed in a Eurorack case using the optional rack mount adapter kit, and it can be powered by batteries, a USB power bank or AC power.
With 12 discrete tracks (plus stereo mix), clip-free 32-bit float audio, AI Noise Reduction, effects, two headphone outputs with separate feeds, MIDI, and sound pads, it's perfect for bands, live sets of electronic music, live streaming, podcasting, and more. The L6max offers four XLR/jack combo inputs with +48 V phantom power, two of which are also suitable for Hi-Z instruments. The four stereo line inputs now feature switchable -20 dB PADs for direct connection of older synthesizers or Eurorack modules.
Each channel features a 3-band EQ with tunable mids, two external aux sends, pan, an effects send and a sub-mix send for a second, separate headphone mix. The master signal can be refined with a compressor.
You can connect, programme and synchronise the L6max with external MIDI equipment via the 3.5 mm MIDI input or with a computer via USB. The four sound pads can be used to trigger pre-recorded samples or for live sampling during a performance and they can also be synchronised with MIDI.
The L6max can also be used as a 32-bit float 12-in/4-out USB audio interface on a computer, iOS, or Android device while simultaneously recording to an SD card. And the new OLED display provides a clear overview at all times and makes operation easier, even in dark environments.
